Krista Vossler

Krista Vossler doesn’t consider herself a pianist, although upon hearing her songs for the first time, the average listener would be forgiven for reaching that conclusion. A lifelong student of the instrument, she began using the keys as a vehicle for her own songwriting shortly after leaving her career as an English teacher in 2002. She quickly found a voice of her own, both musically and lyrically, and it’s these early compositions that comprise her first full length album--2005’s Spoken/Forgotten. Lovingly produced by Seth Woods (The Whiskey Priest, Sad Accordions), and driven by Vossler’s Fender Rhodes electric piano, these songs showcase her versatility as a songwriter and a performer.

Since her move to Houston in 2003, Vossler has played with a diverse group of musicians, including Ryan McKay (DJ Red), Reggie O'Farrell (The Western Civilization), Gretchen Schmaltz, Bryan Ellis (Aster), Matt Matherne (Alex Dupree’s Trapdoor Band), and Steve Deckel (Altar Guild).  She has shared the stage with artists such as Alex Dupree, Jason Harrod, and Murry Hammond, helmed the group Ship to Shore with bandmates Dallas Begnaud and Michael Rice, and toured the East Coast with Luke Kalloch (The Loblolly Boy) as one half of their duo Mountains in the Moon.

Having made a home in Austin with her husband and two kids for over a decade, music in various forms remains the core of Vossler's vocation. Though the trappings change, as Saint Benedict said, "...always we begin again."  With each new endeavor, Vossler hopes to bring a little light into the world with her take on love and loss, joy and destruction.
