Back Porch Modal is a collaboration between Andrew Hernandez (Meryll, This Will Destroy You) and Seth Woods (The Whiskey Priest, Sad Accordions). Began in a season of new chapters for both men, these recordings are a study in improvisational listening, a night’s journey of finding one’s way through unknown territory on unfamiliar instruments, a conversation in map making and leave taking.

During a a stop over at Seth’s place in Albuquerque on his way to Northern New Mexico, Andrew picked up the five string cigar box guitar hanging on the wall in Seth’s basement loft. Seth set up a mic and plugged in his MircroKorg and began trading ideas. What resulted were the instrumental compositions that make up their debut outing, 121. Full of space and distance, these songs feel like a bridge from a place left behind to a place not yet arrived - a liminal place of rest on the journey.
