Alex McMahon Joins Casita

We’re thrilled to announce that Albuquerque pedal steel legend and multi-instrumentalist Alex McMahon is releasing his first solo album on Casita Records! Alex has been a staple in the New Mexico music world for over a decade (known to most from his output with Gral Brothers or his recording and touring role with The Handsome Family), filling our ears with the lonesome sound of desert air waves and summer monsoons, as interpreted through baritone guitars, battery powered synths, intricate effect pedal loops and sound manipulations galore. His first solo album, WCW, is a series of songs that he composed to the lyrics of the poet William Carlos Williams. Like a beautiful love child of Richard Buckner’s “The Hill” and the best of the lo-fi song collages of Sparklehorse, WCW stands as a kind of a sonic love letter to all that McMahon holds dear - an inner cosmos of vast meaning and depth, wound up in the small reels of a cassette tape, played softly through the dusty streets of Albuquerque on its way back out to the stars.

You can read more about the album, as well as pre-order a copy on CD, right here. WCW will be released on April 7, 2023.

Take a listen to a non-album track of Alex’s below to hear his signature sound and get an idea of just why we are so excited to have him in the family, and catch Alex on the road with The Handsome Family this March on dates across Europe.
